Position Summary
Essential Functions
• Holds, positions, and reads tape or rods to assist in layout • Places and moves blocking, braces, and jigs to hold parts • Hammers wedges and drift pins, and turns turnbuckles • Pulls pry bars to align parts • Grinds or chips rough edges, surplus weld, or scale • Positions and turns clamps and bolts together butt straps or parts • Transports and furnishes fitter with materials, tools, and supplies • Assists welders in setting equipment up to weld • Assists tank fitters with fitting of plates and shell plates • Assists with moving fit-up gear around jobsites • Will perform rigging for lifting jobs • Will perform grinding of welds • Will install seals in above ground storage tanks • Inspect, clean, maintain and repair equipment • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools needed in construction of tanks and vessels • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks • Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
Education Requirements
• High School Diploma or GED required • At least 3 years’ experience with tank construction
Required Skills
• Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of tanks • Knowledge of tank work • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information • Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities • Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail • Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines • Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary • Ability and willingness to travel as required
