Excavation Operator – Corpus Christi, TX

Position Summary

The Excavation Operator is responsible for operating an excavator equipped with scoops, shovels, or buckets to excavate and load loose materials​

Essential Functions

• Operates the excavator and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment • Move levers, depress foot pedals, and turn dials to operate power machinery, such as power shovels, stripping shovels, scraper loaders, or backhoes • Become familiar with digging plans, machine capabilities and limitations, and with efficient and safe digging procedures • Observe hand signals, grade stakes, or other markings when operating machines so that work can be performed to specifications • Operate machinery to perform activities such as backfilling excavations, vibrating or breaking rock or concrete • Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

Education Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required • At least 3 years’ experience operating excavator and heavy equipment

Required Skills

• Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of highways, roads, sewers, and bridges • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information • Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities • Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail • Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines • Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary • Ability and willingness to travel as required

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another • Ability to operate job related tools • Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers • Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
