Rig Welder – Houston, TX

Position Summary

The Rig Welder uses hand welding, flame cutting, hand soldering, or brazing equipment to weld, repair or join metal pipe or structural components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.​

Essential Functions

Must own gas or diesel welding rig including PPE and jack stands Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions Welding pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment according to specifications Operate tools and equipment including angle grinders, beveling machines, cut-off grinders, hammers, torches, magnetic drills, welding machines, and a saw-zall. Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers Examine work pieces for defects and measure with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications Recognize, set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance Knowledge of arithmetic Lay out, fits and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms, such as tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and within all heavy construction Knowledge of welding and metallurgy (SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW) Welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products Perform daily maintenance and safety checks Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

Education Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required Must have 3 years’ experience as a Rig Welder Must pass a weld test (stick, tig, sub-arc, flux core, or mig)

Working knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings Excellent verbal and written communication skills Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary Ability and willingness to travel as required

Physical Requirements

Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another Ability to operate job related tools Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
