Position Summary
The Boilermaker 1 performs maintenance and installs equipment related to various types of towers, heat exchanges, heaters, and plant piping to blueprint specifications, using power tools and hand tools.
Essential Functions
Design, install, and repair boilers used to heat water for generating electric power or providing heat in refineries Attach water tubes, stacks and liners, safety and check valves, and water and pressure gauges Connect fire tubes to head or water tubes to drain and headers of boilers Drill and tap holes for installation of studs Tighten bolts to assemble frames, using power or hand wrenches Bolts or screws accessories such as manholes, hand holes, fans, gauges, and valves to vessels Replaces defective parts, using power wrenches prying bars or hand tools May perform general piping work such as line breaking, installing blinds, gaskets May install equipment internals, packings, catalysts, and desiccants in vessels. Inspect, clean, maintain and repair equipment Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools needed in construction Perform daily maintenance and safety checks Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
Education Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required At least 3 years’ experience as a boilermaker NCCER is required

Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of towers, heaters, exchangers, and refinery piping Ability to read and interpret blueprints Excellent verbal and written communication skills Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary Ability and willingness to travel as required
